Meat Drop Terms & Service

Last Updated: June 2026

These Terms of Service govern your use of the Meat Drop platform operated by Meat Drop (PTY) LTD. By using the platform, you agree to these terms in full.

1. The Platform

Meat Drop is a three-sided marketplace connecting independent Butchers, Customers, and Third-Party Drivers. Meat Drop (PTY) LTD does not own butcheries or employ drivers; we provide the technology to facilitate the transaction.

2. Revenue Model

Every order processed through the platform includes a flat R15.00 Meat Drop Platform Fee. This fee is non-refundable once an order is placed.

3. Delivery Logic & Logistics Framework

Delivery fees are calculated using a transparent two-tier formula: (a) Baseline (0 km – 4 km): A flat fee of R45.00, comprising the R15.00 Meat Drop Platform Fee and a R30.00 driver fulfilment allocation. (b) Extended distance (beyond 4 km): An additional R7.00 per kilometre, charged on every kilometre travelled past the 4 km boundary line from the merchant pickup location. The per-kilometre rate is published in these Terms and in the Meat Drop admin configuration document (settings/global_config). It may be amended from time to time by notice on the platform; the rate in force at the moment of order placement applies to that order. Drivers are independent contractors and are not employees of Meat Drop (PTY) LTD.

4. Independent Provider Transaction & Banking Fee Indemnification

Meat Drop operates strictly as a three-sided technology marketplace platform and is not a financial clearinghouse or escrow utility. Merchant / Butcher Settlement Fees: All customer checkout transactions utilising digital payment methods (Paystack) route funds immediately and directly into the designated bank account of the independent Butcher. Any and all merchant transaction processing fees, gateway percentages, or clearing fees levied by Paystack or banking institutions are borne entirely and exclusively by the independent Butcher. Driver Payout Fees: When an independent Driver requests a distribution or payout of accumulated platform earnings, any associated banking transaction fees, immediate settlement charges, or transfer deductions levied by financial institutions are borne entirely and exclusively by the independent Driver. Meat Drop does not subsidise, absorb, or assume liability for individual transactional, gateway, or electronic fund transfer (EFT) banking network costs.

5. Perishables, Cancellations & Pre-Dispatch Refunds

Due to the nature of meat products, all sales are final once the product physically leaves the Butchery in the custody of an assigned Driver. Customers must inspect meat quality upon delivery in conjunction with the Visual Proof of Order (VPO) captured under Section 10. 5.1 Butcher Non-Acceptance (Pre-Dispatch Auto-Refund). Once an order is officially accepted by the independent Butchery partner, the platform allocates a standardised 10-minute operational window to cut, pack, process, and finalise the order before selecting the "Mark Ready" dispatch notification. Where a Butcher fails to confirm preparation within this 10-minute window, Meat Drop will automatically cancel the order and initiate a full refund to the original payment method, with zero fee deduction. Refunds typically clear within 3–5 business days. 5.2 Customer-Initiated Cancellation. A Customer may cancel an order prior to driver pickup. Where the cancellation is processed as a reversal to the original payment card, a non-refundable 3% payment processing deduction is retained to cover the Paystack gateway charge, which is not reversed by the gateway on refund. Customers electing wallet credit instead of card reversal receive 100% of the order value with no deduction. 5.3 Fault Override Rule. Where a cancellation is caused by Butcher fault (e.g. stock unavailability, failure to accept) or Driver fault (e.g. accident, vehicle breakdown, safety incident), no fee is deducted under any circumstances. The full order value is reversed and the platform absorbs the Paystack cost as a service-reversal. 5.4 Scope Limitation. The auto-refund and reversal pathways described in this Section 5 apply solely to events occurring prior to dispatch. Post-delivery quality disputes are exclusively governed by Section 10 (Formal Review) and are not eligible for automated refund processing. Customers wishing to lodge a post-delivery complaint must use the in-app Formal Review channel; legacy references to a "Dispute Portal" should be read as references to the Formal Review channel.

6. Payments

All payments are processed securely via Paystack. By using this service, you agree to the payment-card and bank-to-bank transfer protocols established by this payment service provider and the applicable financial regulations of the Republic of South Africa.

7. Privacy & Data Protection (POPIA)

Meat Drop processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act 4 of 2013 ("POPIA"). 7.1 Categories of Information Processed. We collect and process: (a) account identifiers (name, email, phone, role); (b) transactional data (orders, payments, addresses, GPS coordinates of delivery pins); (c) photographic evidence captured for the Visual Proof of Order (VPO), pickup handoff, and delivery confirmation; (d) device data (FCM push tokens, browser/app version); and (e) communications you exchange with Butchers, Drivers, or Meat Drop support. 7.2 Purpose. Personal information is processed strictly for: (i) operating and routing your orders; (ii) verifying the contents of orders at pickup and resolving disputes under Section 10; (iii) settling payments and payouts to independent Butchers and Drivers; (iv) safety, fraud prevention, and platform integrity; and (v) compliance with legal obligations. 7.3 Consent. By placing an order, you expressly consent to the processing of photographic evidence (VPO, pickup handoff photo, delivery photo) and transactional data necessary for order verification and dispute resolution. Photographs are stored on Meat Drop infrastructure and made available to the Customer who placed the order, the Butcher who packed it, the Driver who handled the handoff, and Meat Drop Operations conducting a Formal Review. 7.4 Retention. Order documents, VPO photographs, and Formal Review evidence are retained for a minimum of three (3) years from order completion to satisfy financial-record and CPA dispute-window obligations, and thereafter deleted or anonymised unless retention is required by law. 7.5 Your Rights. You may exercise your POPIA rights of access, correction, deletion, and objection by writing to meatdropinfo@meatdrop.co.za. Meat Drop will respond within the timeframes prescribed by POPIA.

8. User Conduct

Meat Drop reserves the right to suspend any Butcher or Driver account for poor ratings, failed document verification, three consecutive missed-prep timeouts, or unprofessional conduct without prior notice. Customers found to be abusing the platform may also have their accounts terminated.

9. Consumer Protection Act Carve-Out

Nothing in these Terms is intended to exclude, restrict, or limit any right that a Customer has under the Consumer Protection Act 68 of 2008 ("CPA"), including the implied warranty of quality under sections 55 and 56 of the CPA, to the extent that such rights cannot lawfully be excluded by agreement. Where any clause of these Terms conflicts with a non-waivable CPA right, the CPA right prevails to the extent of the conflict.

10. Dispute Resolution & Visual Proof of Order (VPO)

10.1 Visual Proof of Order (VPO). Before any order leaves the Butchery, the Butcher is required to capture a clear photograph of the packed order ("VPO") and submit a verified item manifest ("Final Manifest"). Both are transmitted to the Customer in real time via the Meat Drop platform. 10.2 At-Shop Acceptance Window. The Customer must review the VPO and Final Manifest before the assigned Driver is permitted to lift the package. Upon Customer acceptance, a binding electronic acknowledgement is recorded ("VPO Accepted"), the Driver Go-Ahead Lock is released, and the order proceeds to dispatch. If the Customer disputes the VPO at this stage, the Butcher may submit a corrected photo and manifest; this cycle may repeat until the Customer accepts or the Butcher elects to cancel the order under Section 5. 10.3 Post-Delivery Disputes — Formal Review Only. Once an order is marked Delivered, the platform DISABLES all automated refund pathways for quality-related disputes. Any complaint raised after delivery shall be lodged through the in-app "Formal Review" channel, which transmits the dispute to Meat Drop Operations together with the original VPO photograph, the Final Manifest accepted by the Customer at the shop, the delivery photograph, the delivery PIN log, and the driver's GPS trail. 10.4 Sole Discretion of Meat Drop Management. The Customer expressly acknowledges and agrees that any refund, partial refund, store credit, or replacement issued in respect of a Delivered order is granted exclusively at the sole and absolute discretion of Meat Drop (PTY) LTD management, based on a manual review of the VPO evidence captured prior to dispatch. The Customer's prior acceptance of the VPO at the shop shall constitute prima facie evidence that the order was packed and presented in the agreed condition; the burden rests on the Customer to demonstrate, to Meat Drop's satisfaction, that a quality defect occurred between dispatch and delivery. This clause is subject at all times to Section 9. 10.5 Response Times. Meat Drop will acknowledge a Formal Review request within two (2) business days and communicate an outcome within seven (7) business days. Communications will be sent to the email address associated with the Customer's Meat Drop account. 10.6 No Chargeback Substitute. Initiating a payment-card chargeback or bank dispute prior to the conclusion of the Formal Review process constitutes a material breach of these Terms and may result in immediate account suspension and recovery proceedings for any costs incurred by Meat Drop in defending the chargeback. 10.7 Final and Binding. The outcome of the Formal Review is final and binding between the Customer, the Butcher, and Meat Drop, save for the Customer's statutory rights under Section 9.
